The smell of roses
Here I sit, late at night, smelling fresh cut roses. We have dozens of roses throughout our house right now. Doz-ens. You would think some one had just won the Miss America pageant or something. But this is a memory I want to keep forever. The smell of fresh roses permeating my mother's house. It's a smell I always want to associate with her, and the feeling of love and appreciation I have for her. I don't want to seem sappy, and use all the usual stereotypical euphamisms about roses, and thorns, and whatnot, I just want a simple, fresh, beautiful smell to keep her memory in my heart forever. I want the smell to bring to life the wonderful family times we've shared this last few days. The "Elizabeth Smarticle", and "A-Prayer-Ican Idol". The tears of joy and utter devastation that have flowed freely from each and every one of us. I want this wonderful smell to help me to remember my mother, and her way of making even the most upset visitor laugh, and leave her room with a smile on their face, and her imprint on their heart. I vow to always go back to these wonderfully tragic days each and every time I smell a fresh cut rose.

You forgot about the show girl!!
Keli,
It is 12:30 in the morning and I have been thinking about you and your family all night. I have so many wonderful memories of your mom. I love you soooo much!! She was always such a huge influence in my life. When we went on trek together I was so sunburnt, your mom keep helping me, and got me wet washcloths and taking care of me. In young womens she was always such a great support to me and a great example. I am so sorry. I wish I could take away the pain. I promise, it does get easier to deal with the pain. Although, I think it only gets easier because you will know she is around and will watch over you. I miss my dad sooo much, but I know he is with his Heavenly Father and with his mom and dad who he missed so much. I know that does not make it any easier because it is just not fair. Cancer is Hell!! Cancer is evil!! I love you all so much! I adore your mom and always will!!! She will always hold a special place in my heart!!
Love you!!

Someone told me once that smell has such a strong role in instantaneously recalling memory. What a good thing to smell and be reminded of your mom.
After my grandparents die, and I smell cow manure? I'll think of them. Because they lived on a farm. Roses are way better.
Awe, smelling the roses, that will be a sweet memory that you will have forever! It will make you smile everytime you think of your mom!
Keli, I just read your blog...sending much love and prayers your way...
Hi Keli,
I can't believe it's you guys. I saw your name on a friends blog and couldn't resist. Where have you guys gone and been? Trevor said to tell Sean and you "Hello"! I can't believe you have 3 kids. I remember you saying you were done with 1! Good to see ya! Wendy and Trevor Wells
I hope you will be planting tons of rose bushes in your yard so you will be reminded often.
Hang in there, everyone s praying for you and your family.
Keli & Sean -
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. She is such a sweet lady - I remember her always being at Rosamond when we were growing up. (Room Mothers all that jazz.) Give her our best and our prayers are with you.
