    Where to begin

I've just been overwhelmed with the thought of packing. I can't even seem to begin to wrap my mind about the task that lies ahead. Luckily Sean and I both love dejunking, so we don't have too much stuff, but we do have three kids and all the stuff that goes along with that. I've perused the internet fully on tips to move seamlessly, but still, I find myself in a funk when it comes to organizing it in my mind. What are some ways you all (or should I start saying y'all?) have found to make the moving process easier?

When's moving day? Do you have a little bit of time? Do you have to pack everything yourself?

When we've moved, I try to take it slow - pack a few boxes each day starting ab out a month before. I start with things that won't be needed - like wall hangings, extra linens, books. Then, I move to things that can be replaced with temporary items - like dishes (just use paper for two weeks). I also start living out of a suitcase, so i can pack most of my clothes. I find packing a few boxes each day really makes the task manageable. Good luck!

    Oh I hate moving... I.hate.moving.

Jessi has the right idea. Start with the crap you don't need, and you'll feel awesome after you have all of that taken care of. When it gets down to the nitty gritty, I like to pick a room, pack it up, and move on to the next. Keeps everything organized.

Good luck you, I'm sad you're moving. Not sure why since it's not like we get together and hang out. But you know what I mean right?

Those are good tips, you have time to take it slow and steady. But it should be even easier and more fun since you could technically lay on the couch eating bon bons while you supervise your professional packer/mover man.

Ah, I'm still trying to figure out how to keep you guys here. It will be sad without you!!!!

I figure we have time, at least a couple of months. And yes, the movers could do it all, but I kind of like the thought of keeping the moving allowance, and doing most of it ourselves. Also, with movers, I would have to go through and label everything, and in what order to load it, so I might as well just pack it. I guess I should start with my linens. Good place.

I know, I wish we could stay. I guess technically we could, but I don't feel like looking for a job instead of looking for a new house. Besides, it gives you another good reason to visit a cool city.

Kalli, we totally need to go see a movie or do dinner or something with Meg before I go. That would be a riot!

I did the same thing. A few a day. I made a list of in order of stuff least used. I think I started with books. Every time I had a few minutes, I packed a couple boxes. It really helped. You could pack summer clothes right now too.

We have moved 7 times if you count when we worked out of town jobs and lived in condos / apartments. 5 if you don't. Best answer, I love to throw away junk but Jake loves to hang on to EVERYTHING! Good luck.

Nate and I have moved 11 times in 10 years. We've gotten pretty good at it. Pack your own stuff. We had movers one time and it was the only time that stuff got broken and they got sharpie on Isaac's blessing outfit (not replaceable). So I always do it myself. Pack things you don't use and stack those boxes in one room or corner of the garage. Get small boxes for your books. But when it comes down to the wire, send all the kids to grandmas for a couple days and just do one room at a time, then close the door. THen call the elder's quorum to lift everything and put it in the van, exactly where you tell them to, so that it fits in the van and the books aren't packed on top of the lamp shades:)

Also, go to a newpaper printing office and ask to buy the left over paper roll. It's a big roll of newsprint and usually costs less than $5. But it is the best packing paper. Use it to wrap your wall hangins, dishes, knick-knacks, lamps, etc.

Then tape the leftovers on the wall and let the kids draw on it.
