News. Sean's company has decided to shut down the Salt Lake City operations.

    Bummer.

As of December, many, many people will be out of work.

But my Sean, "The Bull", has come away unscathed. Or so it depends on who you ask.

Ask my mom, and she'll tell you differently. Ask me, or Mr. Bull, or the kids, or the in-laws, and they say go for it! Sorry, mom.

So it appears the Frozen North of Wisconsin will be our new home. Sean will be working in Chicago. Sounds fun, eh?

So, from all you pros that have moved across the country, I need some tips. Please, please, please, give me tips on how to make this easier than the scenario I have in my head.

I am so excited for you guys. You will only be 2 1/2 hours away from us. We will definitely have to get together. Congrats.

    Sucks!!

can we refer to you as cheeseheads now??

It could be worse... you could be looking for a new job instead of a new house.

It will be a great experience for you to live away from everyone. Good luck!

Do they pay any of the moving expenses?

Aaaahh! I'm sad you won't be so close but very happy that you aren't in another situation. Congrats for Sean and you! Good luck in house hunting.

Yep, we get all moving expenses paid, as well as as many trips out there as we need to get settled. Which looks like First week in October. Which puts me getting home from Seattle on Sunday, and leaving on Wednesday for Chicago, then leaving again the next weekend for Moab, then again the next week for New York and Canada. Whew!

And I will be proud to be a cheese head. It's one of my favorite food groups.

Wowzers! I agree with Mindy--better looking for a house than a job!

Moving across the country is a fun adventure. It's great to start fresh! Lonely sometimes, but then down the road once you have made friends, it is worth it. I think it is easier to make friends in a new place if you stay at home and have kids, at least it is for me. So I think you will all be great and have lots of fun.

"Charge it like a bull, Ned the bull, that's me now." (Groundhog Day...if you wondered.)

I have never been to Wisconsin. Matt also has a cousin who lives in Wisconsin, maybe we will have to make a trip sometime! We have been to Chicago but it has been a few years now.

Also, my favorite is that you labeled this post "Misc."

I don't know why that struck me as funny.

    Cute girls BTW.

Curious, what city are you planning to live in in Wisconsin?

    Keli said...

M: As of right now, we're thinking of Kenosha/Pleasant Prairie area. There is also a town in Illinois that we're interested in, but property taxes are so high, we'll have to see. I like the idea of Wisconsin. Then I can talk funny and get away with it...

E: You'll totally have to come up and visit now! I'm glad to hear it's not too bad being away from family. I'm excited for a fresh start, but it's still scary.

That scenerio in your head, yep can't get any better. If you plan the worst anything better will be a bonus!!!

Moving across country sounds quite adventurous.

But 28 years ago when we moved from Utah to California -back to where we would be surrounded by friends and family - I was not a happy camper for at least the first year.

Because I didn't want to leave our brand new custom made house that we had just moved into!

But now I'm really glad we made the move lo those many years ago - it was the right thing to do.

And travel is easier - much easier - than it was back in the day.

So keep us posted - it's always fun to know the details.

And all the country living type magazines I read show wonderful homes for cheap in places like Wisconsin.

Maybe we'll have the Clayton Reunion in the Midwest!

And Adam is serving his mission in Wisconsin as we speak!

I knew someone was serving a mission there, we'll have to give him a ring and take him to dinner.

It's like the song says (I don't know which one, Eliza can probably tell me), "Sometimes the hardest thing and the right things are the same."

I have never moved across country (except when we went to VA to go to training) but I have moved all over the world. It is a fun adventure. You are just a call or an email away from those that you left behind and when you are in the States, you are just a couple of days ride away. We are hours by plane so I am envious of you. Good Luck and have a great time. Embrace the change. It will be worth it.

So fun! Think of the houses you can get out there! We have friends in Madison and they LOVE it.
Moving is always crazy, but it gets you in gear. You ourge everything , reorganize, make changes. It's a good thing.
And my tip for moving is, if you aren't sure, get rid of it.

I know this sounds silly... but I am kinda sad you are moving.

My brother-in-law and his family lived in Waukashea ( I'm not sure of the spelling). They really enjoyed living there. Was the decision to shut down here in SLC sudden? Do you have any forewarning? I wish you guys all the best!

    Keli said...

We looked in Waukesha, but it's a little too far north. They decided to shut down here and 9 days later the word came down. Crazy how fast they can do things like that, but we have until December, so thats plenty of time.

Nate and I loved Chicago. We would move back in a heart beat. I am jealous. Just remember to keep an open mind. You will make awesome friends and see new stuff and have tons of great new experiences. And think of all the fun new places you get to explore! Do the Boundary Waters up on the Canadian border. From all the pics I've seen, the northern midwest and great lakes area is beautiful and idyllic. We'll definitely come to visit ya'll.
